Thermopiles – Igoumenitsa – Brussels: Marching for Europe and for the world

Marching for Europe and for the world

Thermopiles – Igoumenitsa – Brussels

Our vision

We begin our march from ancient Thermopile, a place known world wide for the heroic resistance against the Persians conquering Greece in 480bc. At that time 300 Spartans with their leader Leonidas fought to their death for the freedom not only of their own city state Sparta but for the whole of Greece. Ever since Thermopiles the place where the actual resistance took place has become famous for embodying the values of self sacrifice and heroism for the defense of freedom, the defense of human dignity. These ideas and values we need today as milestones to defend our humanity and our very existence against an economic system that creates and sustains massive inequality among people and among nations.

Thermopiles symbolizes the red line, the point where human values erect a wall against the forces of economic totalitarianism. These values of solidarity, of heroism, of sacrifice we need today 2000 years after the 300 Spartans have chosen to stay and hold the ground, fight for freedom and independence.

The march from Thermopiles to Igoumenitsa (330km) the gate to Italy and to Europe is a march for global justice, is a march on behalf of millions of people trapped in chronic poverty, people that have lost their dignity because of the current economic and political system designed to imprison people and whole societies.

We march from Thermopiles to Europe and by doing so we transfer the humanitarian values of freedom from fear and from want for all.

We call citizens from Greece and Europe to join this human dignity march, to cross Greece from east to west and then continue to Italy and Europe creating a human chain of solidarity, resisting together, visualize a new world of justice for all, a new world of solidarity and equal opportunities for all.

Who are we

We are citizens from Greece and the world that have left aside our political, ideological and ethnical background combining our forces to transfer the message of solidarity to the disadvantaged people, to all those victims of an unjust and immoral economic system that forces millions of ordinary citizens to social exclusion and to loss of dignity.

We march for the dignity of all those people in Greece, in Europe and in the whole world. We say we are tired. We don’t want improvements to an economic system that like a shark eats our flesh. We want our dignity back, we want not austerity measures, not minor changes, we want our power back, power to all people, to let them know that they deserve it, its their right to live humanly, to have quality of life wherever they live, free from fear and inequality. No one is making us a favor.. we deserve it!
